About Jim Stewart
Jim Stewart is COO at True Ventures, the early-stage venture capital firm. He has been with True for nearly nine years, where he leads the operations of the firm itself, runs the back-office function across audits and fund administration, and serves as a resource to founders inside the portfolio.
Before venture, Jim took four companies public, including one with Morgan Stanley alongside True co-founder Jon Callahan. That track record across operating roles at companies of widely different sizes is what gives him a useful vantage point when True's founders need a sounding board on scaling, financing, or governance questions.
On Between Two COOs, Jim discussed the operational mechanics of running a venture firm, taking calculated risks (a theme that carries into his side work crewing on a pro race team), and what to do when you discover your company has just violated US export controls.
