About Cameron Herold
Cameron Herold founded the COO Alliance, a peer network for second-in-command operators, and hosts the Second in Command podcast. He is best known for his time as COO of 1-800-GOT-JUNK, where he helped scale the company through 13 operating P&Ls, and for advising CEOs and COOs on the dynamics of that relationship. He has written five books, the most recent of which, The Second in Command, was designed to be read by both CEOs and COOs to align them on how to hire, partner, and operate together.
Herold started his first company at twenty, running a painting business with twelve full-time employees. He held the second-in-command role three times before joining 1-800-GOT-JUNK, and has run his own company for the last sixteen years. His operating philosophy puts employees ahead of customers and revenue, arguing that engaged employees take care of the company on their own.
