About Joe Yaffe
Joe Yaffe is COO and chief legal officer at Cowboy Space, which is building data centers that run in orbit. He spent 31 years practising law in Silicon Valley, fifteen of them at Latham & Watkins and the rest at Skadden, where he was managing partner of the Palo Alto office.
Across those years he represented high net worth individuals, founders, and CEOs as their personal counsel, work he describes as becoming their consigliere. That practice put him in the orbit of Baiju Bhatt, the Robinhood co-founder who went on to found Cowboy Space. When Bhatt stepped away from Robinhood and said he was thinking about building space lasers, Yaffe told him that if he did it, he would come along.
He studied ancient Greek in college and describes himself as the liberal arts guy in a building full of engineers.
